I decided I want to do something photographic as it is my specialty and when I started this degree I wanted to complete it as photographically based as I can, although I would like to perhaps look at some moving imagery creative video perhaps. But not for this project as I don’t believe five weeks is enough time to learn a new skill like that.
I had one night to think about an idea to present to a group of five of us students that were unsure whether we wanted to work in a group or individually.
An idea that hit me during the night was to photograph a cross section of different aged people and Photo Shop something that they have written or drawn over the image that describes why they love Nelson. These images (could be 10 – 100) would be put together in a slide show that could be projected somewhere inside G Block.
This idea really excites me as I enjoy portraiture and I feel it interactive, fits in well with Light Nelson and having real people that could come to the display and see themselves is positive. A question I could ask them is ‘why they love Nelson’ this fits into the theme Habitat as Nelson is their ‘habitat’. Why do they love their habitat.
I brought this idea the the group on Tuesday morning. Half of them liked it the other half were not so keen because they were ‘makers’ and wanted to create a sculpture. I saw Klaus and presented it to him, he said it really is an individual project. I had thought I could include slides of other peoples chosen media so that they could do something towards it too, but really that would complicate it. It needs to be simple.
So its decided Im going individually.
Now I am going to go ahead and brainstorm this idea further.
